Social robots are increasingly used in hospitals to provide informational guidance and customer service. However, lack of work is done on their roles to help people deal with emotional issues experienced in hospitals. One of the typical issues is the anxiety of people experienced in waiting procedures in hospitals. Accumulation of such anxiety posits potential threat to the hospital systems, which might lead to bad experience of individuals or even interpersonal conflicts. This project aims to design a social robot that help people avoid or alleviate anxiety while waiting in the hospitals and explore the variety of interactions initiated by social robots with people in the waiting environments.
